‘Should be worth 12 runs’, David smashes 129-metre six against India image

Australia may have lost Sunday night’s third T20I match against India, but Tim David won the internet with one of the biggest sixes ever seen in international cricket.

After coming to the crease in just the third over after both Travis Head and Josh Inglis failed to fire, David belted an electrifying 74 runs from just 38 balls in an innings that included five sixes and eight fours.

But the shot the crowd will long remember came in the seventh over when David launched a 129-metre drive off left arm spinner Axar Patel that went high over the sight screen and smashed into the roof of Hobart’s Ninja Stadium.

Fox Sport declared it was the biggest six ever recorded by its tracking system.

David’s innings saw debate around his continued role primarily as a finisher in T20 cricket, where he typically comes in down the order in the final frantic overs.

“He’s wasted the first half of his career at number seven facing ten balls a game,” Mark Waugh said of the 29-year-old in commentary on Fox Sport.

Meanwhile, former England batsman Kevin Pietersen suggested David’s six was so big it should have earned 12 runs for the Aussies.
