Virat Kohli's emotional farewell tour of Australia has started with a whimper, as the former Indian captain was dismissed for a duck off eight deliveries.

The 36-year-old came to the crease after an ominous start for the visitors. Rohit Sharma was caught behind in the fourth over, leaving India one down for 13 runs.

The Australian opening bowlers, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood, managed to pin the legendary batsman down one end as he ate dot ball after dot ball on his way to an early dismissal.

For Kohli, the pressure became too much as he lashed out at a Starc delivery that was pitched up outside of the off-stump.

The Kookaburra caught Kohli's outside edge and flew to Cooper Connolly who was fielding at backward point.

The fall of Kohli's wicket left India reeling at two for 22, putting the men in blue under serious pressure to begin the series.

After retiring from Test cricket and the T20 game, Kohli has committed to the 50 over format for the final stretch of his professional career.

He will now have to deal with a hostile Aussie crowd who will no doubt let him hear about the fact that he caused the scorers no trouble in Perth at his next stops in Adelaide and Sydney.
