Brownlow Medal 2021: Port Adelaide star Ollie Wines wins a record count image

Port Adelaide star Ollie Wines has become the club's first Brownlow Medallist in a record count at Optus Stadium in Perth.

The 26-year-old polled 36 votes to win from Bulldogs midfielder Marcus Bontempelli on 33 and Melbourne's Clayton Oliver on 31.

Wines' vote tally was an equal record under the 3-2-1 system, as he polled the same amount of votes as Richmond star Dustin Martin did to win the the 2017 Brownlow.

Polling in a record 16 games, Wines picked up votes in 11 of the last 12 matches to snare the award, surpassing Bontempelli after round 22.

Four players polled 30 votes or more with fourth-placed Carlton star Sam Walsh finishing on 30 votes.

In equal fifth was St Kilda captain Jack Steele and Essendon's Darcy Parish on 26, while Christian Petracca finished in equal-ninth on 23 votes.
