Hawthorn has confirmed the departures of Sam Frost and Jasper Scaife as the club begins reshaping its list following its preliminary final exit. The call ends Frost’s six-year stint with the Hawks, while Scaife departs after just over a year.

Frost, 32, played 94 matches in brown and gold after crossing from Melbourne in 2019, but managed only two senior appearances this season.

The arrival of key defensive recruits Tom Barrass and Josh Battle last October pushed him down the pecking order, leaving the veteran surplus to requirements despite having featured in 24 games the previous year.

List manager Mark McKenzie paid tribute to Frost’s contribution on and off the field.

“With 94 games across six seasons, Sam has been a terrific servant of our footy club, and we’d like to wish him, his fiancée Laura, and their daughter Charlotte all the best in their next chapter,” McKenzie said.

Scaife, a mid-season draft pick in 2023, departs without a senior appearance but earned praise for his attitude. “We’d also like to thank Jasper for his contribution to Hawthorn, he showed great dedication and commitment during his time at the club,” McKenzie added.

While Frost may draw interest as a delisted free agent, Hawthorn is tipped to make further list changes before October’s trade period, as the club looks to refine its squad for another finals push.
