The Giants confirmed they will contest the charge, which will be heard in front of the AFL Commission on December 13 - meaning the club's selections at Friday's AFL Draft are not at threat.
Whitfield was banned for six months by the AFL last week after being found guilty of staying at former club official Craig Lambert's house to avoid the possibility of a drug test.
Lambert and fellow former GWS employee Graeme Allan were suspended for 12 months for colluding to help Whitfield.
"The club regards any potential sanction stemming from this charge as unwarranted and inappropriate given the admissions by the former staff members that they acted outside their authority," GWS said in a statement.
"As a result, the Giants intend to contest this charge at a hearing with the AFL Commission on December 13."
