Papadopoulos, whose former AFL clients included West Coast's Glen Jakovich, Dean Kemp and Peter Sumich, was apprehended in a vehicle with another man by police during a roadstop on the Mitchell Freeway at 4:40pm on Saturday.
Police charged both men with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply after detectives found the drug haul in the vehicle - valued at almost $1 million.
$5000 cash was also found in the vehicle by police.
Papadopoulous and Anthony La Bianca were remanded in custody after appearing in court on Monday.
A decision will be made on bail conditions later in the week after the magistrate investigates the defendants' alleged crime gang links.
