Dave Hughes' troubles from the AFL Legends match back in August have continued, with the comedian revealing he was back in hospital on Tuesday.

Usually a bit of a kick and giggle, this year's charity game between Victoria and the All-Stars at Marvel Stadium took a serious turn when Hughes suffered five broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Targeted by All-Stars coach Shane Crawford, the 54-year-old was crunched by ex-footy players Andrew Embley, Daniel Gorringe and Mitch Robinson in three separate incidents.

He played on before the seriousness of his condition was revealed when he went to hospital later that night and now the popular funny man took to Instagram to show he needed more medical care.

"The experts are draining a coupla litres of lung fluid into a goon bag for me," Hughes wrote in a post. "Then it's party time again."

Hughes added a video of him holding up a bag seemingly with the fluid that had been drained from his lungs.

In a series of posts, Hughes also complained about the constant beeping noises in hospital and then detailed his difficulties getting help managing his pain.

"I thought having a tube stitched into my lung to suck out fluid was real pain. I was wrong," he said.

"Asking for a painkiller to deal with that pain and getting told you're going to get Endone, and when it turns up it's in a cup, and when you look in there's only one, that's real f**ken pain.

"I need five more Endone to deal with that."

Hughes has had hundreds of comments on his posts.

Former radio host Heidi Anderson wrote: "Heal well legend."

Actor Rob Mills said: "Oh mate. Please rest up and get well soon."

TV legend Lisa McCune, who appeared alongside Hughes in Taskmaster Australia, posted five red heart emojis.

It remains to be seen whether Hughes' footy career is over or he will attempt to pull on the boots again in 2026.
