The first batch of players has been named for the Western Australia vs Victoria State of Origin match, with Brownlow Medalists, premiership players and All-Australians selected.

The AFL confirmed the return of State of Origin, which will see Western Australia playing Victoria next year on February 14, 2026, at Optus Stadium in Perth, with Dean Cox coaching WA and Chris Scott coaching the Vics.

Western Australia's first four picks are Tom Barrass, Shai Bolton, Patrick Cripps and Aaron Naughton, with Victoria selecting Marcus Bontempelli, Zak Butters, Jeremy Cameron and Matt Rowell.

WA coach Dean Cox picked the side with WA Selector Glen Jackovic and said the ability to pick so many talented players with such accolades can only be good in building the anticipation for the game.

"With some of the best players available, including a dual Brownlow medallist, premiership stars and All-Australians, the excitement and anticipation is really starting to build for the match," Cox said.

"There's more top players to be announced in the squad in the coming weeks, and I know the Western Australian players are extremely proud to have the opportunity to represent their state and play in the return of Origin and take it up to the Vics."

Victoria coach Chris Scott spoke glowingly about the abundance of talent they had to pick, explaining there will be a lot of pride for players pulling on the famous jumper.

"After sitting down with (Victoria selector) Garry Lyon, it was quickly apparent there's a phenomenal talent pool to pick from and it's fantastic to have Marcus, Matt, Zak and Jeremy commit to the Vics," Scott said.

"Marcus, Matt, Zak and Jeremy are elite players in their own right and embody what is great about our game and what Origin football represents, and as we edge closer to the game, there's a real sense of anticipation building.

"I know I speak for all the boys when I say there's enormous pride and excitement about pulling on the Big V and representing our state."

The State of Origin game was also confirmed to start at 7:40pm (AEDT) on February 14 next year.
