Fulham Biography

English Professional football club Fulham is based in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The club was founded in 1879 and is the oldest professional football team in London. Fulham team started their professional existence in 1879 as Fulham St Andrew's Church Sunday School. Their first honor came when they won the West London Amateur Cup in 1887 and soon after that they went on to win the West London League in 1893 at the first attempt. In 1902-03 they won promotion from the Southern League's 2nd division which allows them to enter into the Southern League 1st Division. The club establishes themselves quite easily and won the Southern League twice, in 1905-06 and 1906-07. After wining Southern League twice Fulham gained admission to the national Football League. The club's first ever league game was against Hull City in the 2nd Division of 1907-8 season, which they lost 1-0. The first win for Fulham in the league games came a few days later at Derby County's Baseball Ground, which they won by the score line of 1-0. At the end of the season they were only three points short of promotion in 4th place. However, this was the best season they had in their twenty one year stay in that division, and after only winning 13 out of 42 games in the 1927-28 season Fulham were relegated to the 3rd Division South, which was created in 1920. During the World War 11 leagues were disrupted therefore regional division came into existence for the temporarily bases. In 1946-47 season full league programe was restore and Fulham finished top of the Second Division, with a win-loss-draw record of 24-9-9.

Promotion to the First Division of English football the club performs poorly, finishing 17th in their first year and 18th in their second. And in the third season they finished rock bottom of the 22-team league in the 1951-52 season, winning only 8 of 42 games. Their time in the second division was not and they remain in that division for couple of seasons. In 1958 club reached the FA Cup semi-finals and used this momentum to win promotion back to the 1st Division. In the 1959-60 season they achieved 10th position in the 1st Division.

The club remains in the First Division for the next couple of the seasons despite struggling in the League. The club experienced several close escapes from relegation but finally the club suffered from the relegation in the 1967-68 season by winning just 10 out of their 42 games. In the next season they suffered in the second division as well which made them to slip into the third division. They remain in the third division for two seasons and then they were promoted back to the Second Division as runners-up in 1970-71. Next couple of years of 70s and 80s the club spend most of their time in the second and third division. Some of the best players of England national team join the fulham in 60s and 70s such George best and Rodney Marsh but still they were unable to produce goods for Fulham.

The start of the 90s didn't bring any good luck for Fulham as they roll between second and third division. In 1997 Millionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed purchased the club and soon fired Micky Adams the manager after the poor start. He installed a two-tier management "dream team" of Ray Wilkins (as First Team Manager) and Kevin Keegan (as Chief Operating Officer), pledging that the club would reach the Premier League within five years.

Finally in 2001-02 season fulham break into the Premier League for the first time and despite a couple of good games and some flashes of brilliance, they finished the league on 13th position. In the next season Fulham dangerously got close to the relegation zone, and Chairman Mohammed Al Fayed told Tigana that his contract would not be renewed at the end of the season but was fired before it. Chris Coleman took charge for five games at the end of that (2002-03) season, earning Fulham 10 points out of a possible 15 and preserving a place in the Premier League for the next season. For the next couple of seasons Chris Coleman handle the team quite well and made them to perform fabulously. The start of the 2006-07 season wasn't good enough for Fulham, as they lost several important matches. Fulham Football Club terminated the contracts of Chris Coleman while Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez and Les Reed were put in temporary charge. In 2007-08 season Fulham showed signs of improvement from the previous season and they went on to win several matches. The start of 2008 season Fulham was not fantastic as they face a defeat by Hull City 2-1. At the moment they are on the 9th position of the Premier League.
