Carlos Alberto Vela Garrido was born on March 1, 1989 in Quintana Roo, Mexico. He is currently in Premier League for Arsenal as a striker. Vela started his professional football career with Chivas de Guadalajara. He attracted number of European clubs when he participated in the U-17 World Cup with the Mexican national team. Vela helped the Mexican team win the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship against other promising teams, including Brazil. In 2005 Arsenal finally bought him to the club for a £125,000 fee that will rise to £550,000 if he plays 50 first-team games. He signed a five-year deal with Arsenal however, due to English work permit restrictions for non-EU citizens which prevented him from playing in England, he was quickly loaned out to Celta de Vigo in February 2006. Vela was then loaned to UD Salamanca, in the Spanish second division, for the 2006-07 seasons as he was still ineligible to play as he still had yet to receive a work permit. In 2008, Vela was granted a work permit that allowed him to play in England. Vela made his debut for Arsenal on 30 August 2008 in their Premier League match against Newcastle United, coming on as a substitute for Robin van Persie
