He was born on March 4, 1962 in Los Angeles, California. His capabilities are well utilized by the players in the team. Gardner has been associated with professional baseball for 20 years. Gardner has also played for several teams in MLB, that includes Montreal Expos, Kansas City Royals, Florida Marlins and San Francisco Giants.
Gardner has been very inspired by the game of baseball since he was a child. During his child hood, he played baseball at his home, and then he played it for the school team when he was in Clovis School Clovis, California. For his school baseball team, Gardner was a child star and performed well for the team. His family and other people observed his talents and great potentials. Gardner used to be a good player for his college as well. He was in Fresno State University, Fresno City College and used to represent the college team in baseball competitions. His college team won some important matches due to his performances. Along with others, Gardner was also keen to be signed by a team in the professional baseball league. His dream came true and Gardner was selected by Montreal Expos in 8th Round (192nd overall) of 1985 amateur entry draft. Before playing for the top class team, he had to climb the ladder of minor league system. He played several games in the minor league and demonstrated his skills to impress the selectors. Soon, he was called to join the main team on May 16, 1989 for the Montreal Expos.
